SEPA issue 16 Regional Flood Alerts and 34 Local Flood Warnings as Storm Kathleen brings very high winds to coastal areas of Scotland over the weekend.

18 Regional Flood Alerts and 42 Local Flood Warnings remain.

Coastal flooding remains possible today and tomorrow along much of our coastline due to high tide levels. Heavy rain is expected to cause surface and river flooding in the south and east on Tuesday and in the west on Wednesday.

Heavy rainfall brings a risk of flooding from rivers and surface water across central, southern and north-eastern parts of Scotland today (Tuesday) and tomorrow. Coastal impacts are also possible in the Solway Firth, Western Isles and along the east coast due to high spring tides and wave surge.

The remnants of Hurricane Ernesto will reach Scotland on Wednesday, into Thursday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds, particularly in the West.

As climate change continues to increase the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, experts say wave data is key to protecting Scotland’s coastal communities from the impacts of flooding.
