Local Environmental Issues

The Mossmorran complex is located on the outskirts of Cowdenbeath, north of Edinburgh. The complex consists of the Fife Natural Gas Liquids (FNGL) Plant and the Fife Ethylene Plant (FEP).

Grangemouth, a town located in the Falkirk area, is home to Scotland's only crude oil refinery which produces the bulk of Scotland's fuels.

Daldowie fuel plant, located south of the M74 in Glasgow, produces biomass pellets from sewage sludge taken from the surrounding area.

The ENVA composting site, located in South Lanarkshire, treats green waste through an in-vessel composting process.

The Viridor Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Bargeddie accepts residual waste from five local authorities. The waste is processed and separated on site in order to recover or recycle as much material as possible.
