SEPA launches new surface water and small watercourses flood maps to strengthen Scotland’s climate resilience

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) have unveiled new surface water flood maps, which for the first time include small watercourses. This new level of detail provides Scotland with the most detailed and accurate picture of where flooding could occur from heavy rainfall.

Storm Amy is expected to impact most of Scotland with the greatest impacts to be felt on the north and west coasts as well as the Western and Northern Isles. Regional Flood Alerts and Local Flood Warnings are in place with further Warnings expected throughout today and into tomorrow as the storm progresses.

Storm Amy continues to bring high winds and large waves to northerly parts of Scotland and the Northern Isles with further rain expected across central and northern Scotland. Regional Flood Alerts and Local Flood Warnings remain in place.

A period of extended wet weather could bring travel disruption in parts of Scotland from the evening of Saturday the 13th and into Sunday 14th December. We continue to work with the Met Office to monitor the situation 24/7 and will issue regional Flood Alerts and local Flood Warnings as necessary.
