Community Notice – Shell Fife NGL Plant

Date published: 03 February 2026

The following community notice has been shared with SEPA regarding a planned steam outage and flaring at the Shell Fife NGL Plant.

"I’m writing to let you know that we will be taking a planned steam outage at the Fife NGL plant on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th February 2026.

"During this period, both the elevated flare stack and ground flares will be in operation, which may result in visible smoke. I want to assure the community that we have thoroughly prepared for the steam outage and expect the controlled use of flares to be intermittent and limited to daylight hours to minimise any impact.

"Please contact us if you have any questions or comment. Our notices and contact details are also on the plant website."

Kind Regards

Tyne Bradley

Plant Manager, Shell Fife NGL plant

What we have done

We continue to monitor air quality and noise in community locations. Communities around the Mossmorran Complex are now able to see the air quality in their area in close to real time, with the launch of our new monitoring network.

It follows on from community participation in the design of a new air quality monitoring network, and a refreshed online regulatory hub designed to make it easier than ever to find information about our regulation of the Fife Natural Gas Liquids Plant and Fife Ethylene Plant.

Find out more about our new monitoring network on our air quality monitoring page.
