Transfer an existing authorisation
You can apply to transfer an authorisation to another person. This can be the transfer of the whole authorisation or just part of the authorisation. There is a fee to transfer an authorisation (in whole or in part). Read our charging information for information on the application fees to transfer an authorisation.
To transfer a registration in whole or in part, the transferee (proposed authorised person) must comply with all standard conditions associated with the activity. You can find the most up to date standard conditions on the relevant activity specific web page.
To transfer a permit in whole or in part, the transferee (proposed authorised person) must comply with all conditions associated with the activity. For permits including standard conditions, you can find the most up to date standard conditions on the relevant activity specific web page
Please note, the regulation of water, waste management and industrial activities will transition under EASR from 1 November 2025.
You cannot apply to transfer an existing authorisation under EASR until 1 November 2025.

Registrations
If you want to apply to transfer a registration, you will need to:
Step 1: Complete a registration activity form
- Download the activity form for the registration activity you wish to transfer.
- Complete the transfer section of the form.
- Activity forms are available on the relevant web pages for each registration activity.
- If the registration authorises multiple activities, you must complete a separate activity form for each activity you wish to transfer.
Step 2: Complete the APP-GEN2 form
- Download and complete APP-GEN2. APP-GEN2 Transfer (in whole or in part) of an authorisation
Step 3: Submit your application
- Email the completed forms and any required supporting information to: registry@sepa.org.uk. Make sure you have included the correct transfer fee.
Permits
If you want to apply to transfer a permit, you will need to:
Step 1: Complete a permit transfer form
- Download and complete the relevant permit transfer form for the activity you want to transfer.
- Permit transfer forms can be found on the relevant web page for your permit activity.
Step 2: Complete the APP-GEN2 form
- Download and complete APP-GEN2. APP-GEN2 Transfer (in whole or in part) of an authorisation
Step 3: Submit your application
- Email the completed forms and any required supporting information to: registry@sepa.org.uk. Make sure you have included the correct transfer fee.
Transfer of a registration activity authorised by your permit
Step 1: Complete a registration activity form
- Download the activity form for the registration activity you wish to transfer.
- Complete the transfer section of the form.
