Septic tanks and private sewage treatment systems
If you are not connected the the public sewer, you probably use a private sewage treatment system, such as a septic tank or package treatment plant. This type of system discharges to land or water and could cause pollution. By law, it must be registered.
Transporting waste or acting as a broker or dealer of waste
If you transport waste or arrange for its transport as part of your business, you must register with SEPA – even if it’s occasional. Failure to register may result in a fine of up to £5,000.
