Industrial activities
Information about the industrial activities we regulate and the authorisation you’ll need to carry on each activity.
Please note, the regulation of industrial activities will transition under EASR from 1 November 2025. If you need to apply for a new PPC authorisation or vary, transfer or surrender an existing PPC authorisation before 1 November 2025, read Authorisations and Permits on our legacy website.
Energy industries
Information about the activities we regulate that involve combustion of fuels and thermal treatment including gasification, liquification and refining and the authorisation you’ll need to carry on each activity.
Metals
Information about the activities we regulate that involve the manufacture, processing or treatment of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and surface treatment of metal and plastic materials and the authorisation you’ll need to carry on each activity.
Minerals
Activities that involve the mineral industries including the production of cement, lime, magnesium oxide, ceramics and glass along with production and removal of asbestos. Also includes other mineral activities such as crushing, screening, grading, handling and storing various mineral materials.
Chemicals
Information about the activities we regulate that involve the production, use or release of organic or inorganic chemicals including speciality chemicals and the authorisation you’ll need to carry on each activity.
Waste
Activities that involve landfilling, the disposal, recovery or storage of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste including making fuel from waste.
Timber and paper
Activities that involve the manufacture, chemical treatment or preservation of wood products and the manufacture or paper, pulp and wood based panels.
Agriculture and food industries

Solvent activities

Petrol vapour recovery (PVR)
