If the radioactive substances activity you are undertaking meets the descriptions below you are required to make a Notification to SEPA for that activity. You don't need to notify SEPA if the activity can be carried out under a permit or registration that you have already been granted.

  • The management of radioactive waste resulting from decontamination of people following an incident
  • The management of radioactive waste resulting from firefighting activities following an incident

The management of the 2 activities detailed above are authorised by Notification. If you intend to carry out any of these activities, you must make Notification to SEPA. There are no associated General Binding Rules with this notification. SEPA reserves the right to escalate this notification to a registration or permit if appropriate.

Notifications for managing radioactive waste from an incident are valid for 60 days.
