This General Binding Rule (GBR) applies to the keeping of livestock.

Rules
The keeping of livestock is covered by General Binding Rules. If you intend to carry out this activity, and you comply with the rules set out below, your activity will be authorised. You don’t need to apply to SEPA for an authorisation.
If you carry out an activity under this authorisation you must comply with the rules. It is an offence if you do not comply with the rules.
If you cannot comply with the rules, you will need a different type of authorisation.
General Binding Rule (GBR) for keeping of livestock
Significant erosion or poaching of any land that is within 5 metres of any—
- river, burn, ditch, or loch as measured from the top of the bank,
- wetland,
- spring that supplies water for human consumption,
- well or borehole that is not capped in such a way so as to prevent ingress of water, or
- transitional water or coastal water, as measured from the shoreline, must be prevented,
livestock must be prevented from entering any land that is within 5 metres of any spring or borehole that supplies water for human consumption or within 5 metres of any well or borehole that is not capped in such a way so as to prevent the ingress of water,
livestock feeders must not be positioned within 10 metres of any—
- river, burn, ditch, or loch, as measured from the top of the bank,
- wetland,
- spring that supplies water for human consumption,
- well or borehole that is not capped in such a way so as to prevent ingress of water, or
- transitional water or coastal water, as measured from the shoreline,
run-off from land on which livestock congregate to access watering points or feeders must be intercepted (by means of a sufficient buffer zone or otherwise) such that any faeces, urine or soil in the run-off are prevented from entering any spring, well, borehole, surface water or wetland.
