If the radioactive substances activity you are undertaking meets the descriptions below you are required to make a Notification to SEPA for that activity. You don't need to notify SEPA if the activity can be carried out under a permit or registration that you have already been granted.

  • The management of radioactive waste resulting from decontamination of people following an incident

  • The management of radioactive waste resulting from firefighting activities following an incident

The management of the 2 activities detailed above are authorised by Notification. If you intend to carry out any of these activities, you must make Notification to SEPA. There are no associated General Binding Rules [KH1.1]with this notification. SEPA reserves the right to escalate this notification to a registration or permit if appropriate.

Notifications for managing radioactive waste from an incident are valid for 60 days.
