Abstractors are being urged to plan ahead as the risk of water scarcity across the east of Scotland remains.

Residents and businesses across the Scottish Borders are being encouraged to sign up to SEPA’s free Floodline service, which has been enhanced to deliver more accurate and localised flood warnings, helping protect communities and better prepare them for flooding.

An expanded monitoring programme carried out by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has detected PFAS in surface water and groundwater samples collected from sites across Scotland.

The River Lossie has today been raised to Significant water scarcity following prolonged dry conditions and exceptionally low river flows. Temporary restrictions have now been issued on some licences to abstract water from the environment, to help protect river flows and the wildlife that depend on them.

SEPA and Scottish Water continue to actively work with all relevant partners including Fife Council, NHS Fife and Fife Coast and Countryside Trust in response to the ongoing localised pollution pressure affecting the Kinghorn Burn, to protect public health and the environment.

Dry weather has led to more Scottish river catchments moving through the water scarcity levels, according to the latest report from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).
