Following reports of dogs becoming unwell after entering the River Don at Kemnay in May 2024, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) have confirmed there is no evidence of recent or ongoing pollution.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) said:

“SEPA have undertaken assessments of the water quality in the River Don at Kemnay, following reports of three dogs becoming unwell after entering the water.

"Our findings, based on chemistry and ecology results, have found parameters to be well within normal ranges, and there was no evidence of any recent or ongoing pollution.

“We have no reason to link the reports and the appeal made by Scottish Water regarding potential unauthorised waste disposals that have impacted Waste Water Treatment Works serving Kemnay, Oldmeldrum and Daviot.

“We would like to thank those who submitted reports and urge anyone that is concerned about a potential pollution incident to immediately contact SEPA online or via the Pollution Hotline 0800 80 70 60.”
