Report an environmental event
An environmental event is an incident which has, or may have, an environmental impact.
The reporting system is not suitable for contacting emergency services in situations where there is an immediate threat to life, health, or property.
If you are unable to submit a report online, you may contact the pollution hotline on 0800 807 060 between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM Monday to Friday to speak to a live operator. Outside these hours, calls will be handled by an automated system which will triage your report and escalate urgent issues, as necessary.
Please note that this mailbox is not monitored 24/7.
Report an incidentImportant information
SEPA often receives reports which are outwith our statutory remit. Please check details on what SEPA doesn't do before you submit a report.
If you are reporting odour, it helps us if you provide an accurate description of the odour. Have a look at some of the smells associated with the activities we regulate. Read about typical odours.
Once a report is submitted, it will be prioritised based on environmental significance. See SEPA's statement on how we prioritise.
Complaining anonymously
If you wish to complain anonymously then contact the pollution hotline on 0800 807 060 to ensure we have the required information to take action. Anonymous notification submitted via the webform are not included in SEPA's overall events notification numbers.
Contacting you
We will only make further contact where necessary. In most cases you will not receive any further update from us with respect to this event. SEPA complies with the Data Protection Act 2018 and our Privacy notice outlines the way in which we use this information.
