Inorganic chemicals
Information about the activities we regulate that the production, release into the air or use of inorganic chemicals in manufacturing, including halogen production and processes using mutagenic compounds and the authorisation you’ll need to carry on each activity.
Production of inorganic chemicals
Find out about the permit authorisation needed to carry out the production of inorganic chemicals in liquid, gas or solid form. This is a Schedule 20 activity.
Halogen production
Find out about the permit authorisation needed to carry out the production of halogens or any compound comprising only of two or more halogens, or any one or more of those halogens and oxygen. This is a Schedule 26 activity.
Release of hydrogen halides
Find out about the permit authorisation needed to carry out any production activity which is likely to result in the release into the air or water of any hydrogen halides (other than the coating, plating or surface treatment of metal or treatment of water with chlorine). This is a Schedule 26 activity.
Use or release of hydrogen cyanide or hydrogen sulphide
Find out about the permit authorisation needed to carry out the production activity which uses, or is likely to result in the release of, hydrogen cyanide or hydrogen sulphide. This is a Schedule 26 activity.
Processes using mutagenic elements or their compounds
Find out about the permit authorisation needed to carry out a process producing any compounds, or using or recovering any mixture, containing mutagenic elements or their compounds where the activity may result in the release into the air of any of those elements or compounds. This is a Schedule 26 activity.
Any other activity which may result in the release into the air of any acid forming oxide of nitrogen
Find out about the permit authorisation needed to carry out any other activity which may result in the release into the air of any acid forming oxide of nitrogen. This is a Schedule 26 activity.
Recovery of, or production using, cadmium, mercury or their compounds
Find out about the permit authorisation needed to carry out the recovery of any compound of or any process of production which involves the use of cadmium, mercury or any compound of either of these elements which may result in the release to air of either of these elements or their compounds. This is a Schedule 26 activity.
Processes that may release ammonia to air
Find out about the permit authorisation needed to carry out any activity for the manufacture of a chemical which may result in the release of ammonia into the air (excluding activities where ammonia is only used as a refrigerant). This is a Schedule 26 activity.
Storage of substances listed in Table 1
Find out about the permit authorisation needed to carry out the storage, other than as part of another activity or in a tank for the time being forming part of a powered vehicle, of any substance listed in column 1 (Substance) of Table 1. This is a Schedule 26 activity.
