A Kirkcudbrightshire farmer has been served with a civil penalty of £600 by Scotland’s environment regulator for carrying out unauthorised engineering works on the bank of the River Dee at Mayfield Farm in Tongland.

Scotland’s environmental regulator is urging land managers to ensure practices are in line with environmental regulations after serving a £600 civil penalty to a farmer for non-compliant activity associated with crop cultivation.

Most of mainland Scotland’s east coast has now moved to Moderate Scarcity, according to the latest Water Situation Report from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).

Scotland’s water scarcity situation is worsening, with a further decline in river levels following another dry week and only limited rainfall forecast in the days ahead.

Following rainfall at the beginning of the week, some parts of Scotland have seen temporary improvements in water conditions. However, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is warning that parts of the country, particularly in the east, remain under pressure.
