As a result of analysis of routine samples, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) have indicated a high bacterial result at the Heads of Ayr bathing water. As this has the potential to impact human health, signage has been posted to advise the public.

Results of further analysis done on a water sample taken at Portobello Central has been unable to identify the source of the high bacteria count that resulted in SEPA advising against bathing near the start of July.
