The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) have extended temporary restrictions on licensed water abstraction after Tay Estuary (North), River Teviot and Ettrick Water reached Significant Water Scarcity following prolonged dry conditions.

Scotland has seen a contrasting picture this week, with Flood Alerts issued due to heavy rain in some areas, while other parts of the country remain at significant water scarcity.

Water scarcity continues to put pressure on Scotland's rivers and the businesses which rely on them, as hot and dry conditions return following recent rainfall.

The number of areas in Scotland at Significant Water Scarcity has increased from three to five this week, with prolonged low river flows continuing despite heavy rain in parts of the country.
