The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) are supporting partner agencies in response to an ongoing fire at a Greengairs Landfill Site, North Lanarkshire.

SEPA are supporting partner agencies in a response to an ongoing fire at Greengairs Landfill Site, Meikle Drumgrae Road, Airdrie, which is licenced to accept non-hazardous waste.

SEPA officers are working closely with Scottish Fire & Rescue Service, North Lanarkshire Council, Public Health Scotland and NHS Lanarkshire and NHS Lothian Health Boards. SEPA were first notified of the incident on Saturday 29 June at 16:40

Jennifer Shearer, SEPA’s National Duty Manager, said:

“SEPA Officers have again attended the site of the fire at Greengairs Landfill today. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and work with our partner agencies and the site operator.

“We would urge nearby residents and those in the east of Scotland to follow Scottish Fire & Rescue Service advice to keep windows and doors closed if they see or smell smoke. If travelling through smoke, motorists should keep windows closed, turn off air conditioning and keep air vents closed.

“Please continue to follow the SFRS for the latest information and advice.
