SEPA support multi-agency response to significant fire at Linwood, Paisley

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) are supporting a multi-agency response to an ongoing fire at a site in Linwood Industrial Estate, Paisley, which is licensed for dismantling and testing waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) for the purposes of recycling.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) are supporting a multi-agency response to an ongoing fire at a site in Linwood Industrial Estate, Paisley which is licensed for dismantling and testing waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) for the purposes of recycling.

In an update issued at 10:30 am, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed local residents are safe to go outdoors and removed guidance to keep windows and doors closed. Residents are asked to avoid the immediate vicinity where possible as crews continue work to extinguish the fire.

SEPA officers are working closely with partner agencies, have attended the site on Burnbrae Road and will continue to monitor the situation closely.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) urges residents in the surrounding area to remain indoors with windows and doors shut following a fire at a building at Linwood Industrial Estate, Paisley. Local residents in the area are advised to stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed.

Judith Moore, Scottish Environment Protection Agency’s (SEPA) National Duty Manager, said:

“Following initial reports at around 11pm on Sunday evening of a significant fire at Linwood Industrial Estate, Paisley, SEPA officers deployed and worked across the night to support SFRS as part of a multi-agency response.

“SEPA officers remain in attendance at the site of WEEE Solutions Ltd on Burnbrae Road, Linwood, which is licensed for dismantling and testing waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) for the purposes of recycling.

“Residents are urged to continue to follow the SFRS for the latest information and advice.

“Environmental impacts can be reported at sepa.org.uk/report.”

SFRS advised that six appliances and two height vehicles remain at the scene as crews work to extinguish the fire.

There are no reported casualties.

At its height, ten fire appliances were mobilised to the scene after the alarm was raised at 9.12pm on Sunday, 23 June, to reports of a fire in a commercial building on Burnbrae Road, Paisley.

Area Commander David Murdoch said:

“We continue to work with the recycling centre and partner agencies to minimise the disruption to the local community and will continue to provide updates.

“While smoke continues to be visible, we would ask that residents remain indoors and keep windows and doors closed as a precaution.

“If travelling through smoke, motorists should keep windows closed, turn off air conditioning and keep their air vents closed.”

“At circa 11pm on Sunday evening, SEPA was notified of a significant fire at Linwood Industrial Estate, Paisley.  SEPA officers have been deployed and are supporting Scottish Fire & Rescue Service as part of a multi-agency response.

“Residents are urged to follow Scottish Fire & Rescue Service advice to remain indoors and keep windows and doors closed as a precaution.  Their advice is if travelling through smoke, motorists should keep windows closed, turn off air conditioning and keep their air vents closed.
