Public participation
We want to involve communities, individuals, and expert organisations in significant decisions that might affect them. Local knowledge and insights help us make better, more informed choices. By working together with the public and other interested bodies, we can regulate more effectively and ensure decisions consider the needs of those impacted and wider expertise. Our public participation statement explains when and how we will involve the public and other interested bodies in our decisions on environmental authorisations. It will help you to understand how you can be involved.
You may be interested in this statement if you are:
- A member of the public who lives near to an existing or proposed activity and want to find out more about applications we are consulting on.
- A prospective applicant that is applying for or is a holder of an environmental authorisation.
- A public body with related responsibilities to protect the environment and human health.
- An interested body seeking information about regulated activities, who may wish to participate in the authorisation process or be kept informed of them.
Read our Public Participation Statement.
We may publicly consult on applications that, due to their nature or location, have higher likelihood of environmental impact and community impact.
If you are applying for an authorisation where we would normally require pre-application community engagement, or we would consult the public as part of our determination process, this will be set out on the activity specific web page.
