The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) have updated their advice on bathing at Aberdeen bathing water.

Precautionary advice against bathing or paddling was in place over the weekend due to a power outage affecting Nigg Water Treatment Works on Friday 25th July.

A spokesperson for SEPA said: “Power was restored to the area on Friday, July 25, and Nigg Waste Water Treatment Works came back into operation shortly thereafter.

“As a precaution, the sign continued to advise against bathing and paddling for the rest of the weekend. By Sunday evening, tidal flushing meant we could be confident there was a negligible risk associated with this incident.

“The message on our sign and website has now returned to making water quality predictions based on weather. On Monday, July 28, the sign reads "Poor" due to heavy rainfall in the catchment. SEPA generally advises against bathing for 1-2 days after heavy rain.”
