Transporting waste
This activity applies when transporting waste produced by another person.
You will also be asked if you are familiar with your legal responsibilities under the Duty of Care for waste. If you haven’t already, you should read the statutory guidance on Duty of Care before you begin your application.

Standard conditions
The set of Standard Conditions for this activity has the following reference EASR-SC-035.
Your registration application will only be granted if you can confirm you are able to comply with the standard conditions set out below.
If you carry out an activity under a registration authorisation you must comply with the standard conditions. It is an offence if you do not comply with the conditions.
SEPA will not authorise this activity if it poses an unacceptable risk to the environment.
All waste must be inspected prior to transport to ensure that it is as described in the accompanying waste transfer note.
The authorisation reference must be:
- Provided to any person that waste is collected from; and
- Included in any advertisement for waste transport services.
Collection
The gathering of waste, including the preliminary sorting and preliminary storage of waste for the purposes of transport to a waste treatment facility.
Transport
Includes the transport of that waste by road or rail or by air, sea or inland waterway but does not include moving that waste from one place to another by means of any pipe or other apparatus that joins those two places.
Waste
Has the same meaning as in section 75 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Waste content note
A document that must be created for any transfer of waste. It must be as described in Regulation 3 of the Environmental Protection (Duty of Care) (Scotland) Regulations 2014.

Please note: Waste transporters and brokers based in England and Wales must be registered with either the Environment Agency or Natural Resources Wales.
